Horse Play Background

Based on the pain and movement science research of Kathy Sierra, who coined her work "Intrinzen" (pantherflows.com, #intrinzen #pantherflows), the human becomes a “context designer” to create situations where horses move in a way that is authentic to them. Important side notes: 1) The horses are free to leave anytime. 2) The horses have hay available if they do not have access to food 24 hours a day. 3) No whips, or restrictive training equipment is used.

Why am I promoting Intrinzen?

My own experiences with our 4 horses and 2 ponies has shown me the value of Intrinzen. Because each horse is an individual, the results of these movement puzzles is unique to each one. For example, my rescue pony who was skittish if anyone approached her with an object, easily accepts objects in my hands when doing Intrinzen. My show horse who was not stepping underneath herself with her hind legs, now does. The topline and overall muscling of our 25 year old retired mare with Cushing's Disease, has improved.
The most dramatic change is our 20 year old palomino gelding. He SEEMED to only want to walk and never put out more energy than was necessary. Boy, did we have him wrong! Since working with him in this way, it has brought out his love of play and movement, plus a desire to connect with me. I say to connect with me because he is intent on watching my every move from the time I arrive into his presence, to the time I play with him. Once play is initiated, he never gets distracted or quits before I do. Of course, being a mere human, I do not have his endurance!

My Goal:

To share Intrinzen with people who interact with horses. I want to help people get started and create a local community in Monterey County/Santa Cruz County/San Benito County California.
